چکیده

patients and methods the study population consisted of all patients with type iiia gastilo open fractures of tibial shaft, with or without fibula fracture (caused by trauma). after wound irrigation, debridement, and wound swab sampling for microbial culture, all patients received prophylactic antibiotic regimens in fitting with their wound class. no topical antibiotics were used with a 6-month follow-up for any symptom of osteomyelitis. results considering the occurrence of one case of infection, the infection rate was calculated (1.89%). given the low prevalence rate of infection, it was difficult to evaluate the effect of different antibiotic regimens on the prevention of infection (in terms of regimen duration). as such, no specific regimen was preferred. the results of statistical analysis did not show any significant difference between one-day application of antibiotic prophylaxis and two or three days consumption of antibiotic prophylaxis. conclusions according to the results of this study, one-day administration of antibiotics as prophylaxis (first generation of cephalosporins) was sufficient for the prevention of infection after orthopedic surgery in all patients except in patient with risk factors such as diabetes or immune deficiency, when the administration of prophylactic antibiotic lasts for 3 days. objectives in this study, we survey factors affecting infection. background a major purpose of treating open fractures is the prevention of wound infection. infection, as a major complication associated with open fractures, may lead to limb loss, sepsis, and even death. in this study, we survey factors affecting infection.

Ipsilateral tibial shaft fracture and distal tibial triplane fracture with an intact fibula: a case report.

We present a case of an ipsilateral tibial shaft fracture and a distal tibial triplane fracture with an intact fibula in a 14-year-old boy. Computed tomography revealed the distal tibial triplane fracture with a 2.6-mm displaced Tillaux fragment and a posterior malleolar shear fragment. Open reduction and internal fixation was performed to optimise healing and outcome. This is a rare injury, fo...

Acute emergency tibialization of the fibula: reconstruction of a massive tibial defect in a type IIIC open fracture

Gustilo type IIIC open fractures of the tibia are high-energy injuries necessitating long treatment periods and usually multiple surgical procedures and eventually resulting in high morbidity rates and even amputations. We present here a case involving a type IIIC open tibial fracture with massive loss of the entire tibial diaphysis, which we treated by performing acute tibialization of the fib...

Tibial Tuberosity Avulsion Fracture and Open Proximal Tibial Fracture in an Adult

A displaced tibial tuberosity avulsion fracture associated with an open extra-articular proximal tibial diaphyseal fracture is an uncommon fracture pattern. This case report describes the successful management of such a fracture pattern in a 45-year old male using an open reduction and lag screw fixation of the tuberosity with a minimally invasive reduction and plate fixation of the proximal ti...

Poland Type IV Fracture of Proximal Tibia along with Fracture Fibula

Fractures of the Proximal tibial epiphysis are rare. We report a case of proximal tibial epiphyseal fracture with completely separated and displaced physis . The injury was a result of high speed road traffic accident. The fracture displacement was such that it was difficult to put it in any existing classification system except poland type 4. The injury has a high risk of neurovascular comprom...

Tibial shaft fracture and ankle injury – Case report☆

The authors report on a case of tibial shaft fracture associated with ankle injury. The clinical, radiological and surgical characteristics are discussed. Assessment of associated injuries is often overlooked and these injuries are hard to diagnose. When torque occurs in the lower limb, the ankle becomes susceptible to simultaneous injury. It is essential to make careful assessment based on cli...
